Preconstruction Manager / Estimator Location: Tampa, Florida (On-Site)
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience
Position Summary
RYVAN Recruiting is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager / Estimator to play a critical role in the planning and financial success of commercial construction projects. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of new construction, renovation, retrofit, and repair projects while collaborating with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and project teams from concept through project award. The ideal candidate will possess strong estimating expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to develop accurate project budgets, evaluate risks, and build lasting industry relationships that contribute to successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and supporting documentation to develop a comprehensive understanding of project scope, requirements, and potential challenges.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by evaluating labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and project schedules to ensure accurate and competitive project budgets.
- Identify, measure, and monitor key project metrics that influence cost, schedule, productivity, and overall project performance throughout the preconstruction process.
- Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs and perform complex cost analyses to support budgeting, forecasting, and bid preparation activities.
- Develop reliable project forecasts by assessing market conditions, material pricing trends, labor availability, and project-specific factors that may impact costs.
- Perform risk assessments to identify potential financial, operational, and scheduling concerns while recommending proactive solutions to mitigate project exposure.
- Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals, ensuring scope alignment, pricing accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare and present comprehensive estimating reports, budget summaries, value engineering recommendations, and project analyses to leadership and project stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, owners, and consultants to clarify project requirements and support successful project planning efforts.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project review sessions to gather information necessary for accurate estimating and project planning.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners to support future opportunities and successful project delivery.
- Continuously identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and process improvements while maintaining quality and project objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of construction estimating experience within the United States, preferably involving commercial construction projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building systems, project sequencing, and commercial construction practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, budgeting, scheduling, and preconstruction processes.
- Proficiency with estimating software platforms such as Destini, STACK, or similar industry-standard tools.
- Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, bid evaluations, and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex project data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Working knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs), cost controls, forecasting methodologies, and construction reporting practices.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well-supported estimates and project documentation.
